Products We Provide

Your optometrist and optometric assistants will discuss a treatment plan for such conditions like dry eye disease. The following is a list of the products we carry in office for your eye care needs.

Dry Eye Treatment and Management

The tears your eyes normally produce are necessary for overall eye health and clear vision. Dry eye disease occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or produce tears that do not have the proper chemical composition. The common signs and symptoms of dry eye include stinging, gritty, scratchy and uncomfortable eyes, fluctuating vision, and sometimes having a burning feeling or a feeling of something being in the eye. Some people experience tearing as a result of dry eye. This is a natural reflex of the eyes to create more tears to comfort the eye in response to dryness. During your examination your optometrist can help determine what type of dry eye you are experiencing. Ask your optometrist which treatment option would be best for you.

Systane Ultra – for aqueous (water) deficient dry eye (also safe for use with contact lenses)

Macular Degeneration

Researchers with the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) reported in 2001 that a nutritional supplement called the AREDS formulation can reduce the risk of developing advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The original AREDS formulation contains vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, zinc and copper.

In 2006, the same research group, began a second study called AREDS2 to determine if they could improve the AREDS formulation. They tried adding omega-3 fatty acids, as well as the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, which are in the same family of nutrients as beta-carotene. The researchers also tried substituting lutein and zeaxanthin for beta-carotene, which prior studies had associated with an increased risk of lung cancer in smokers. The study found that while omega-3 fatty acids had no effect on the formulation, lutein and zeaxanthin together appeared to be a safe and effective alternative to beta-carotene.

At our office we provide:

Preservision AREDS 2 – a supplement developed from the AREDS2 study results for those with macular degeneration

MacuHealth – a supplement for those who may be lacking vital nutrients in their diet but want to help maintain their eye health
